FGB at SPS IPC Drives

TransInno, a linear drive with an innovative concept, is presented to the public for the first time at SPS IPC Drives (24 to 26 November) by FGB Steinbach in Nuremberg. The latest innovation of the manufacturer of special-purpose machinery based in Lower Franconia not only offers a significantly less complex manufacturing process, but also the related cost advantages. TransInno is suitable for applications where long distances of approx. 100 meters have to be crossed quickly. This means the new linear drive is particularly interesting for manufacturers of high-bay storage facilities, elevators or machinery and system engineers. “In cooperation with the University of Bremen, we have developed a powerful prototype based on transverse flux technology that now also enables less complex and thus industrial manufacturing processes”, says Thorsten Steinbach, managing director of FGB. TransInno is a linear direct drive for linear or bent routes as necessary. It offers the power and dynamics of traditional synchronous drives. “As the previous solutions required installation of numerous copper coils or solenoids in the stator or rotor, their use is often inefficient due to high material costs, particularly for large distances”, Steinbach further explained.

Linear direct drive with innovative design In cooperation with its research partners, FGB developed a transverse flux linear drive with an innovative design that has a favorable effect on the production of its individual components. The new design was considerably simplified and its secondary part only consists of plates with production-friendly dimensions. The solenoid flux control system was also improved to minimize losses due to eddy currents. Additional advantage: Thanks to simple manufacturing technology, the stator poles can be switched off almost without restrictions for application of desired motor properties. TransInno productions thanks to new process technology FGB Steinbach developed process technology for cost-effective production of transverse flux linear drives with their many advantages. “In the next step, we are going to approach potential customers to promote TransInno as an interesting solution for their individual applications”, the manufacturer of special-purpose machinery announced. At SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg, other drive solutions are also presented besides this product innovation: For example, highly dynamic motors for test stands, achieving swivel angles of +/- 12° at up to 50 Hz while producing considerable torque.
