Of earth worms and transverse flux machinery

Within the course of the latest development projects, State Secretary Stefan Müller, accompanied by his fellow member of the German parliament Dorothee Bär in her constituency, visited FGB Steinbach on 26 June 2015. The State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research made the journey from Berlin especially to visit the innovative company based in Salz and to learn about their innovative project plans at first hand. When welcoming their guests, the company management (represented by Thorsten and Bastian Steinbach) pointed out that this visit was “very fitting” as the topics of research and development have a particularly high priority in the Steinbach Group

Accordingly, the company presentation was filled with technical highlights. The machinery manufacturer’s unique hexapods as well as the simulation platform particularly developed for Audi were addressed. Apart from that, State Secretary Müller also learned about powerful generators for regenerative energy generation, the user-friendly T.eddy (eddy current test device) as well as the “Earth worm” that drills independently into the ground for routing of cables and lines. The member of the German parliament was particularly interested in “TransInno”, an easy-to-manufacture transverse flux machine for long travel distances that is currently being developed by FGB in cooperation with the University of Bremen.

Müller was visibly impressed by the scope of research topics at FGB and the numerous partnerships with various universities and institutes. This impression was further reinforced in the tour through all of the company’s departments, which, for example, also included a presentation of “emporium”, the leading solution for building automation. The other guests, including District Administrator Thomas Habermann, economic development official Dr. Jörg Geiger and Mayor Martin Schmitt, were also very pleased by the visit and the innovative spirit of the medium-sized company and its employees.

The visit ended with a group picture in front of the company’s small-scale wind turbine.
