New hexapod development

FGB expands hexapod series by high performance class

With its newest hexapod machine FGB shows once more its capacities in developing and constructing highly demanding servo-hydraulic test rigs. By order of the University of Paderborn the company has once more developed an innovative hexapod. The system enables the testing of chassis components under real-life conditions. With the new approach test routines are set-up quickly and in a cost-saving way compared to other test methods.

Quite recently FGB impressed industry experts with its heavy-load hexapod developed for Hamburg-Harburg University of Technology.

The development of the new test rig was carried out in close cooperation with the Institute of Control Engineering and Mechatronics of the University of Paderborn. This project, which was supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), differs strongly from the Hamburg Hexapod in terms of design details. However, the very high system dynamism (up to 19 times of gravitational acceleration) with extreme system accuracy and rigidity of the mechanical structure are familiar challenges in both projects .

With additional supplementary test bench equipment from the established range of FGB products (supply and connection unit, ball joints, fail-safe control system), the hardware of a test rig for a customer specific hexapod was developed for the University of Paderborn. Using this design the institute is seeking to revolutionize its further system developments as well as all testing of mechatronical axes.

Once again, the flexible medium-sized company is developing a solution that is anything other than standard. With this project, FGB is not only further substantiating its know-how in the field of hexapod development; it is also further developing its excellent relations with the research and development community.

For more than 40 years the company which is a member of the Steinbach group and which has about 170 employees, is well-known for its wide range of experience, for its innovative ideas, but especially for the high reliability of its products. Besides individual testing machines FGB is also developing and constructing other customer specific machines (e.g. assembly systems, machining centres, handling and transport units).
