Extremely Slow Turning Drive
The Challenge
- Artificial production of silicon is important because of the limited amount of natural crystal, and because they are used in numerous products (e.g. solar cells, microchips)
- Produced in a smelting procedure: Cool germ crystal is dipped into the melt and grows inside this
- These grow comparatively long, and the crystal is drawn upwards extremely slowly at around 0.008 rpm
- Drive with an extremely slow and constant speed is necessary
The Solution by FGB
- Development of a hollow shaft direct drive that is ideally suited for drawing silicon crystals -> Using the gears would cause fluctuating speeds and therefore lower quality
- Optimisation of the cogging torque and the bearings
- Measuring system ideally trimmed to the drive
