Hydropower generators

  • The hydropower field requires generators with a high torque and low speeds, and high efficiency even in the partial load range
  • To provide power in an energy efficient manner, permanently excited synchronous machines are used in connection with matching supply units
  • Advantage: Thanks to high fee rates, more complex systems pay off relatively quickly compared to asynchronous machines

The following shows an example of an application-specific solution that FGB developed for a 30kW water turbine:

  • Switch-over from the asynchronous motor currently used by the customer to synchronous technology
  • This allows the possibility of continuous optimum feed also for variable water levels
  • Here: output 30 kW at a speed of 750 rpm
  • But the development of highly efficient generators with much higher output parameters (up to 100W) is also possible
