Out-of-round Measuring Device for Pistons
Task and Process
The circumference of the pistons for car motors are not circular, they are slightly oval. The system shown here was developed to check this contour.
It is designed as a manual work station so that the operator needs to place the pistons first into the measuring holder. Once the start button is pressed, the measuring process starts automatically; the piston is rotated and two measuring sensors record the contour. All conforming parts are then labelled with a colour marking. The operator is warned about nonconforming parts by means of a warning lamp and also a beeping sound. This ensures safe sorting and placement of parts.
