Structure-borne Sound Testing Module for Brake Boosters

Task and Process

An existing functional testing system for brake boosters was expanded with the structure-borne test module described here. When the piston rod is actuated, the noise of the springs in the brake boosters can also be recorded in addition to the normal test procedure.

The structure-borne sensor is located in a spring-damped frame that uses the movement of the existing test bench mechanics to feed the sensors. After positioning on the part, the start signal for the noise test is issued via the existing PLC. The result of the test is returned as a signal to the PLC and is also displayed directly on the structure-borne test module. The noise of the springs was integrated as an additional test criterion into the existing process; this means that nonconforming parts do not receive an identification stamp and are sorted out.
